This annual event is organised by the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) together with U.N. Day of Women and Girls in Science and it aims to establish
an active network of people of all genders to overcome barriers to gender equality in Science.
This year, the GWB2024 was celebrated on the 27th of February and in Portugal the online programme initiated with three speakers, Vânia Calisto, Ana Costa Freitas and Amparo Faustino. These three women scientists addressed the challenges in water treatment, the promotion of equality and full participation of women scientists in science, teaching, industry and administration and also the "catalysts" of our professional careers. The programme continued with a Quizz to test the participants' knowledge on Science, followed by brief contributions from ISCAL- IPL teachers on consumers' rights, the scientific diversity at ISCAL, mathematical perspectives of diversity and English as the language of science.
The Colégio Dom Bosco, Angola, participated as well with an intervention on how to demonstrate chemical experiments in the absence of a laboratory. The program ended with participants gathering at each institution, having coffee & cake.
At NOVA FCT the celebrations, chaired by Ana Aguiar-Ricardo, took place at the Ágora Room, where more than 50 participants meet to enjoy a parsimonious breakfast. The revenues raised were donated to students with financial needs through FACIT (https://sites.fct.unl.pt/facit/).
