17-06-2024

Luisa Maia from the (Bio)Chemistry & OMICS Group was the Chair of the 2024 Inorganic & Bioinorganic Chemistry Conference | 2024 IBiCC (https://2024ibicc.events.chemistry.pt), held at NOVA Rectorate, Lisboa, May 16-18.

The #2024IBiCC aimed to provide a forum to discuss all Inorganic and Bioinorganic Chemistry topics, particularly those on the frontier with Catalysis, Energy, Materials, Nanotechnology, Biology and Medicine. The challenges humankind currently faces require active joint discussions and the #2024IBiCC fostered collaboration and scientific exchange in a stimulating, scientifically rewarding and friendly environment.

The conference counted 46 oral communications (4 Plenary, 12 Keynotes, 18 Invited Lectures and 12 Oral Communications) and 59 posters. With 120 participants, the #2024IBiCC counted with the presence of several highly renowned international scientists, including Professor Javier Garcia Martinez (former President of IUPAC), Robert Hausinger (Michigan State University, USA), Professor Emma Gallo (Università degli Studi di Milano, Italy), among several others.

The presence of LAQV-REQUIMTE members was massive. Professors Luis Branco, Carlos Lodeiro and Maria C. Rangel presented Keynotes and Researchers Salete Balula and Vitor Rosa presented Invited Lectures; the young researcher Clara Rodrigues Pereira presented an Oral Communication. Professors Baltazar de Castro, Cristina Freire, José Moura, Jorge Parola also attended the conference. Several students and senior LAQV members marked their presence with posters. Besides the Chair, Luisa Maia, the conference organisation counted also with the Researcher Clara Gomes and several students from LAQV (André Amador, Agnese Bertinelli, Navendu Paul and Luis Pereira).

In addition to the Plenary and Keynote Lectures of excellence, the awarding of the Alberto Dias Award to Professor Isabel Moura was another highlight of the conference.
