Professor Nuno Lapa and Researchers Dr. Inês Matos and Dr. Márcia Ventura, from the Department of Chemistry, NOVA FCT, have won the 3rd edition of the Pedagogical Innovation Award at NOVA, promoted by NOVA’s Rectorate.
The pedagogical project titled “Can the Flipped-Classroom Methodology Make the Bioenergy Teaching & Learning Processes More Engaging?” was developed and applied in the 2023/2024 edition of the Bioenergy course unit (CU) in the Master’s in Renewable Energy Engineering.
This pedagogical project involved inverting the teaching-learning method over the 13 weeks of the Bioenergy CU. In this “flipped classroom” methodology, students were invited to participate in 11 different e-activities to prepare for the following class.
The method, based on a blended in-person and online system, was supported by various platforms, all centred on the Moodle@FCT platform.
The success of this method was evaluated by a high number of competencies acquired by students (in two individual tests), an improvement in the class average and median, and increased student satisfaction with the teaching-learning method, as assessed by CLIP surveys.
The Award, which includes a pedagogical innovation grant, was attributed by Rector Professor João Sàágua and Vice-Rector Professor João Amaro de Matos on November 12, 2024, during the NOVA’s Day celebrations.
